You’ve probably heard the buzz; Gum disease can be related to diabetes, heart disease and other serious health concerns. Inflammation caused by gum disease and harbored bad bacteria can exacerbate more serious conditions such as heart disease and pregnancy complications. And new research is only strengthening those claims. Recent studies by the University of Birmingham in England suggest that prevention can make a significant difference. “Something as simple as treating gum disease, a neglected, often painless condition, could limit damage from some of the world’s most widespread and costly diseases” states Iain Chapple, a periodontologist who co-led the study. Ensure your good health by visiting your dentist regularly. Proper at-home care such as brushing and flossing, coupled with routine cleaning and examinations will help keep you healthy and happy.
